All About the Disney Challenge
The Disney Challenge is a strategic-team-scavenger-hunt-trivia-style-event with a warped sense of humor!
It’s a cross between a car rally on foot and an insane written Disneyland mid-term, all taking place at the Happiest Place on Earth. It’s a contest that will challenge your knowledge of Disney lore, your observation skills, your wits, your luck, and above all, your ability to work as a team. This contest will not necessarily be won by the biggest Disney buffs but by the team that uses the best strategy and works best together.
The Disney Challenge started in 2001 and was created and produced by Dave Mancini, Johanna Mancini, and Tony Allegra as a fun activity for a youth group we were all involved with. It was known in 2001 and 2002 as “The Old West Disney Challenge.” In 2009, Dave, Johanna, Tony and a few players from the first two years decided to bring it back, rename it, and open it up to the public. Thanks to Social Media sites such as MySpace in 2009 and Facebook in 2010 and 2011, it has exceeded our expectations and is now a much anticipated annual activity for many Disney Fans. We have a very active Facebook “Like” Page with a thriving community of Disney Challenge participants who met each other through The Disney Challenge and remained friends. We even schedule meet-ups once in a while to see old friends and make new ones.
The Disney Challenge is usually played on a Sunday between Memorial Day and Father’s Day (late May, early June), before it gets too hot or too crowded but close enough to Summer that most attractions are open. If the Official Date for the next Disney Challenge is not published on the main page, check back often to see if it has been announced. Registration usually opens about 6 weeks before that date and closes about 2 weeks before.
The Disney Challenge is a labor of love brought to you by an extremely dedicated Event Crew. I invite you to get to know us by reading the “Crew” section and arriving early on the Challenge date to meet us. The Disney Challenge is also, above all, a team competition intended to bring together Disney fans from all over for a day of spirited and friendly competition, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
We’d like to take a moment to welcome you all to all to The Disney Challenge and we hope you enjoy playing it as much as we enjoy putting it on.
